This might be my favorite book of the series! All kids need help with managing their moods. With simple rhymes, the author gives children (and their parents) simple but effective techniques to lift a low mood. Children will see that there are many choices—from listening to music, going outdoors, sleeping, or enjoying some quiet time—to help get them out of a funk. These books are “magic” in the ways they have helped children in their daily lives! Bravo!

As someone who is embracing Gentle Parenting, this beautiful book is a helpful and wonderful guide to help children learn how to embrace different strategies to help improve their moods. Even as adults, we need reminders, like when we’re feeling overwhelmed, to take a walk, ride our bike, breathe, be present, and choose healthy food choices. This is a children’s book, but of course parents and adults alike can glean wonderful messages and tips from these pages. It’s having the resources, compassion and patience in meeting the child where they are and helping them to navigate all the big moods and feelings they have in life. Because let’s be honest, we have those same moods as we get older too! 🙂 But giving children a toolbox early on is so important, it helps them to navigate and make great choices later on. Love the book and the illustrations as well!

Becky did a great job showing the reader that we can have choices when we are not feeling “ourselves.” It can remind humans of all ages what we can do to help us get back to ourselves again. She in no way shares we “shouldn’t” have our emotions nor uses labels on the emotions, but she offers through great illustration and ideas ways to allow the emotions to move through. If you are looking for a tool in your school, daycare, home, etc. to illustrate to children that we have choices when our “funks” come up and show kids some fun ideas for navigating their emotions, this is a great book!

As someone who is often in a bad mood myself, I found this book delightful AND useful for children experiencing their own sour moods. Mrs Cummings lists 12 ways to combat bad moods, including music, exercise, pets, and more. Whereas I know these methods already, I did NOT when I was a child. Highly recommended.

As a psychotherapist and mother of 4, I found this book to be a fun and beautifully illustrated introduction to help children learn about their moods and how to shift them in healthy ways when stuck. It is also wonderful for those who already know about moods in order to build more emotional awareness, healthy coping skills, and mindfulness. This book is a great addition to any therapeutic office, classroom or home that wants to build a more growth mindset and healthy communication around emotions. Well done!

Once again Becky has put together a truly cute and charming book to read with your children, one that is easy and effective for them to learn and use. Becky thought of every possible strategy or choice a young child could make, in place of those, every so often, unproductive ones. Love the illustrations and rhymes this book is loaded with! Empower your little children with this winner of a book! Let them learn from a very young age, that they can handle the job of choosing great ways to cheer up and be magical, and even without any help from the adult kind!
