This book is phenomenal at helping children, not only understand their moods, but how to work with them, honoring their feelings and moods, but learning how to work through them to have a more positive day. I am a first grade teacher and I have used this book in my classroom. The kids love the wonderful pictures and we have some truly meaningful discussions about how to handle our moods and emotions after reading this book.

The Magic of Me Series, book 7: My Magical Moods by Becky Cummings is an incredible book for helping children learn how to handle emotions. Each rhyming page details a strategy for how to handle those “off” days when someone might not be feeling their best. The overall message is that feelings are temporary, and it’s all in how we deal with them. Taking a break to play outside, creating art and spending time with pets are some strategies that are detailed in the book. I highly recommend this book.

Children go through stages of different moods and sometimes they need to reminded that so many others experience it too. This book shows countless examples of different moods and how others go about embracing their mood but it does something else …It allows children to take a time out while they read so they can regroup and make the most of the mood they are in. Another great book by Becky Cummings.

Another beautifully written book by Becky Cummings! I also love the adorable illustrations to depict the wonderful strategies to help us with our big moods.Growing up in a family where showing emotions were obsolete, as an adult there were huge takeaways even for myself when reading this to my 7-year-old. Although this book is geared for a certain age group, it’s refreshing when we can be reminded in our monkey minds what we can do to help ourselves and our children with our moods. The rhyming element of the book made it easier to read with a smooth flow where I even was able to read it in a singing voice that captivated my daughter even more where she ended up singing along as well! It also provided real life experience examples for children and specific tools to help one navigate this big world of moods. Sometimes the simplest strategies are right in front of us yet we forget that it can be utilized! For example using music, going outside, being active/sports, being creative, alone time and spending time with animals were all wonderful ways shown to help us bring more joy and ease into our days.I love the bonus piece of the author providing tips/strategies at the end. This allows for the accountability piece where I can actively work on this with my daughter where it becomes more interactive. Once again, I can’t get enough of these series as it’s one of our favorites in our large collection of books. Thank you!

Love this book for many reasons! As a former occupational therapy assistant, working in the pediatric population, I would use mindfulness techniques and would’ve loved this book during my time treating. This book opens up a valuable conversation between families and children. Teaching children at a young age that they have control over their emotions is very helpful for healthy self regulation. I love how the author incorporated every day activities and made this very relatable to all children. Beautiful illustrations! I highly recommend!
